Uwe Rosler beware - the Glovers are coming!
Date added: 30/07/2011
So, just a week to go until the new season, and we’re in for an early treat! Brentford Away is one of our favourites and should be a great opportunity for a lot of exiled Glovers to catch a glimpse at the new look squad Skivo and co have been building over the summer.
Remember the sunglasses though, could be a hot day. And well, we might be wearing that Day-Glo away kit of ours!
This year we thought we’d take a break from Brentford High Street and gather around noon in the The Bricklayer’s Arms in des res Putney. The pub will be familiar to many Capital Glovers as we’ve met there before and it’s maintained its great reputation, winning various CAMRA awards.
The eagle eyed may notice we’re also meeting later than usual but it’s probably no coincidence that the annual Great British Beer Festival trip takes place the previous evening!
If you fancy joining us, all are welcome.
From Putney we’ll be aiming on catching the train over to Brentford in time for the traditional mad dash pint at The Griffin.
After the game, in which we’ll hopefully see a good performance from the boys and have had a chance to air a few new ‘terrace classics’ we’ll be retiring in the direction of one of our usual West London haunts – either staying for a couple in Brentford or moving on to Chiswick High Street.
Hopefully see many of you along the way.
Capital Glovers European Tour to Cologne, Germany (18-21 November 2011)
Date added: 05/07/2011
Capital Glovers and friends it’s time to dust off the passports for our 2nd European tour. After the roaring success of the first trip to Bilbao back in 2007 an adventure over land and sea is very much overdue.
The destination pretty much chose itself with the recent departure of Mr Jon Hartley to start a new life in Cologne, Germany. That area of Germany is rich for football so there is plenty of choice. The initial pick of the fixtures are...
Cologne v Mainz
Borussia Mönchengladbach v Werder Bremen
Schalke v Nuremberg
According to Herr Hartley “It is not inconceivable that all of those could be spread across three days” which would be a right result. Either way to maximise it we should look to go Friday and come back Monday. Obviously there will be some who might not be able to have the whole time off but that by no means should preclude you from not coming for some or part of the weekend.
Easyjet flights are very reasonably priced and there are only 2 flights a day from London Gatwick. All pretty much £50 return, the ones in bold are the preferred
Friday 18th November 07:00 > 09:25 There is a later flight that evening at 18:00 > 20:25
Sunday 20th November 20:55 > 21:20 Only one flight that day
Monday 21st November 09:55 > 10:20 Also later flight at 20:55 > 21:20
There are other options. Germanwings fly from Stanstead to Cologne. If anyone is feeling plush then BMI & Lufthansa fly from Heathrow. Whilst I suspect Easyjet will be the best bet I will check once I have a better idea of numbers.
I’ll have a look at hotels, but with us going for 3 day and a few games we’ll aim for the cheaper end of the market. The Ibis Hotel currently has a twin room for £140 for 3 nights – a decent price.
Basically can you let me know
a) if you're interested?
b) if you can do the times in bold and want to come in the main group?
c) if you're interested in a 5-a-side match against some Germans over the weekend?
Let us know if you have any questions and hopefully you’ll be able to join the CGs second European Tour. If it's only half as good as the Bilbao trip then a great weekend of football, drinking, food, and fun is guaranteed.
Amended Plans for Dagenham & Redbridge
Date added: 10/02/2011
Due to the extensive TFL engineering works taking place this weekend, we’ve been forced to amend our plans for Saturday’s match against the Daggers.
We are now relying on a mixture of overground trains, underground and quite possibly buses and taxis to make it to the ground for kick-off so with that in mind we’ve curtailed our morning pub crawl.
You will now find us holed up in Covent Garden’s The Harp Bar from 10.30 onwards.
Following that we’ll be heading out to Liverpool Street Station and seeing what combination of transport will get us to the ground the fastest.
All are welcome to join us pre-match and as for post match, well we’ll have to see where the tide takes us and Skivo’s boat.
Hopefully back into Central London with 3 points and ready to celebrate!
Dagenham & Redbridge Away 2010/11
Date added: 23/01/2011
With the recent upturn in fortunes for the cask beer brewing market, the resident Capital Glovers ale-heads have targeted our away game at the Daggers as a day to flex their knowledge!
We will be taking a tour of some of the city’s refined / unrefined (delete applicable to individual tastes) drinking establishments on a route taking us roughly from the West End our eastwards to the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium.
If you fancy joining us along the way, please do. Beards are optional!
We’re finalising a starting point at present due to conflicting information on opening times but it’s likely to mean meeting early doors and some travelling around the tube network so load those Oyster cards or get yourself a travelcard.
Running order most likely to include stop-offs at:
The Harp Bar in Covent Garden.
The Cask Pub & Kitchen in Victoria.
Euston Tap in Euston.
Mason & Taylor in Bethnal Green.
We will announce confirmed plans when we have them but rest assured, we’re in for a good day out and hopefully a strong away performance from Skivo and the boys!
Brentford Away 2010/11
Date added: 22/01/2011
With Brentford Away having been a regular feature of recent seasons, we’re getting to know and love the selection of pubs this area of the Capital has to offer!
So with no further ado, we make no apologies about returning to a few of our usual haunts!
Pre-match, we’ll be crawling along (famous last words) Brentford High Street before ending up at the Griffin, one of the four pubs adjacent to Brentford’s ground and that closest to the away end.
We’ll start out at O’Briens from 11.30 and then move on to The Magpie and Crown. Following that with a final pint or two at The Brewery Tap.
We usually encounter the bulk of the away support at our last stop-off point, The Griffin (we'll be there from 1.45) but it would be great to see some of the travelling barmy army earlier in the day. So if you’re coming up for the game pay us a visit and we can put the world of Yeovil Town to rights over a few drinks!
Let’s keep Skivo’s boat riding the waves!
Club response to Capital Glovers open letter
Date added: 06/01/2011
The club have today provided us with a response to our second open letter (21 September). As previously promised, below is the full transcript of the reply:
Dear Capital Glovers,
Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding previous emails sent to the club. Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying to them.
As mentioned to Seb White, a Capital Glover via email, I believed that our previous message to Brendon Owen was to be conveyed to your supporters group as he had said he would do this in his response to us. I took that as an official response to your email sent to us originally so please accept my apologies if this was not intended to be the case.
With regard to the questions put in that message, please allow me to reiterate the club's position on the matter.
We have been aware for a long time that the facilities at the Club need to be upgraded and improved. That cannot be achieved without generating the resources to do so. The separation of the land from the Stadium itself is part of that process. We would like our fans to embrace these efforts as it is they who will benefit in the long term, with a Club that is more able to sustain itself in League 1 and maybe beyond.
The reasons for proceeding with the restructure of the club into a group arrangement were clearly outlined in the circular to shareholders that was issued in June. That document was in the public domain and was available for inspection by any interested party. A detailed article was also written in the Western Gazette.
Regarding the open and transparent nature of the relationship between the club and the fans, we have invited members of the Capital Glovers to meet with officials at the club on more than one occasion to discuss the issues in which they have an interest. . We meet regularly with other supporter groups such as the Green & Whites, the VP's and the DSA as this is, in our opinion, the best way to conduct our business. That invitation is still open and I would invite you once more to contact me to arrange a mutually convenient time to come in and meet club officials.
It is not our intention to conduct our business through the unofficial internet forums and open letters. As a club, we work very hard to keep our supporters up to date with club developments through the medium of the club's official website, the weekly CRM newsletter emailed to thousands of supporters every week and the local press. Historically we have found that this is the best way to communicate with supporters near and far.
I'm sure that you as a group will understand that some things need to be kept confidential as with any business. While we appreciate that this can be frustrating to some supporters, every other club and business has to keep certain things confidential in the interests of the business as a whole.
In closing, can I once more invite Capital Glovers to come into the club and meet with club officials regarding this issue?
Kind regards
Martin McConachie
Supporter Liaison Officer
Yeovil Town Football Club
Update on our Open Letter
Date added: 23/12/2010
We wish to clarify recent postings made on the Internet forum, The Green Room II regarding our now infamous(!) open letter to the Club.
We first sent our letter in August 2010, to which we received a reply later in the same month. Despite some initially encouraging emails between the Club and ourselves we have however yet to hear back, bar an acknowledgement note, with regards to the contents of our latest email (published on this site on 21st September, 2010).
An email has been sent by us this morning to attempt to prompt a direct reply to concerns raised in our letter of the 21st September. We will publish any response received on this website.
We want all Yeovil Town supporters to hear the answers the Club provide us with.
Seasons Greetings!
Date added: 23/12/2010
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all you Glovers a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
Hopefully we’ll see a few of you digging our way to victory clearing the ground at Huish Park on Boxing Day, but if not – we’ll have a presence at Hillsborough and Home Park for our exciting away fixtures over the Christmas period!
We feel it has been a very successful year for the Capital Glovers, one in which we’ve gone from strength to strength. Not only have we maintained our traditions of great days out on match days and the sponsoring of a Yeovil player’s shirt for the season (unlucky Paul Huntington!), we’ve branched out in to regular 11-a-side friendlies and charity fundraising. On that last note, we hope to have a final total raised from our Adam Stansfield Tribute Night totted up and handed over to the Adam Stansfield Football Foundation in the coming weeks.
2010 has also seen us celebrating another happy Capital Glover wedding and also the birth of the first Capital Glover babies – with little Ranner Jnr and Secker Jnr being the first of the next generation of supporters from London and the South East!
We hope to continue to grow and diversify in 2011 but we will also work to our strengths, making ourselves a fun group for all that we meet and for all who want to be a part of it. We will continue with our aims to bring about an open dialogue between those who run Yeovil Town Football Club and all of its supporters and build the relationships that will help our side bring success on the field.
Enjoy the festive period everybody!
Charlton on Saturday
Date added: 18/11/2010
Apologies for the late notice, but these are our pre-match plans for Saturday’s game at Charlton.
As with previous visits to the Valley and due to the sheer number of pubs in the area, we’ll be starting out in sunny Greenwich. Then, depending on the mood, and numbers we may move on to familiar haunts in Maze Hill and then finally into Charlton itself for the game.
All routes are on the same overground train line out of London Bridge mainline station so get yourself a travelcard and come and join us if you’re in town for the day!
The first pub on our route this season is The Old Brewery, situated close to the Maritime Museum in the heart of Greenwich. We will be there from 11 o’clock.
Following a drink there we’ll be moving on to The Yacht in nearby Crane Street.
Then we’ll be found sampling a couple of our favourite pubs further along the river, firstly at The Cutty Sark Tavern and then last season’s newcomer, The Pelton Arms.
If the game itself proves disappointing, we will at least have some half-time entertainment! CG Dan Britton, in his day job capacity at the Football Foundation will be presenting a big cheque to a local project on the pitch during the break! Give us a wave and we’ll give you a song Dan!
Post match, we’ll be making a night of it back in the London Bridge area so if you’re hanging around in town, or have some time to kill before trains back to the West Country or elsewhere join us in drowning our sorrows / celebrating a surprise victory!
The best way to find us, or to keep tabs on our movements on the day is our Twitter feed, follow us here.
Up for the (Youth) Cup!
Date added: 15/11/2010
We will be making the effort to see what the Yeovil Town stars of tomorrow, and in some cases, stars of the today’s 1st team bench can make of their FA Youth Cup 2nd Round tie at Dulwich Hamlet this Wednesday night, 17th November.
The ground is close to East Dulwich overground station and as the game kicks off at 7.45pm, we thought we’d head to local pub The East Dulwich Tavern for a couple of drinks beforehand.
We’ll be there from 6.45pm and making the short (albeit uphill) walk to the Ground with plenty of time to have a good look round.
What better way to warm up for Saturday, the first chance we’ve had to see Yeovil in London in League One this season!
A Thank You
Date added: 12/11/2010

One of the organisers, CG Seb White has this to say:

Special thanks to our excellent speakers Matt Scott, Andy Brassell, Jim Proudfoot, Rob Smyth and of course to the man who held it all together superbly despite my lack of organisation, Barry Glendenning. I'm sure last night was a fitting tribute to the great man and footballer that was Adam Stansfield. Same again next year!?”

It’s our pleasure to share the news that The Guardian’s Deputy Sport’s Editor, Barry Glendenning has agreed to compere our Adam Stansfield Tribute Night.
We’ve only had to promise him literally a couple of beers to sign up to the cause! If you haven’t subscribed to the Guardian’s ‘Fiver’ daily football email delivered to your inbox at 5pm Monday to Friday then you’ll already be familiar with Barry’s work – if you haven’t, we highly recommend it!
Previously announced guests include Barry’s colleague at the Guardian, Matt Scott known to Yeovil fans for his investigative work on our Club’s finances this season.
We are also happy to have two other respected pundits joining us, Andy Brassell from Radio 5 Live and Absolute Radio / ESPN commentator Jim Proudfoot.
And of course, we will also have cult favourite, former player Murray Fishlock on hand to share some tales.

Open Letter Update
Date added: 21/09/2010
Due to the lack of response from the Club to our recent correspondence, we have today sent the following email.
"Hi Sara,
It has been 18 working days since we sent in our last email to the Club regarding the holding company and asset restructuring and we have as yet, received no reply.
As stated in our previous email, we do not feel that Mr Fry and Mr Starnes have answered the questions included in our original open letter to the club either privately or in public comments contributed to the local press. To quote our original letter:
-Please can the Club explain the benefit of pursuing the sale of Yeovil Town ’s property assets, potentially including Huish Park and the splitting of those assets from those of the footballing operation?
Whilst it is encouraging to hear from Mr Starnes in the press that the stadium itself is not included in the land sale, the remaining property now in the hands of the Football Club will transfer away from its ownership. The benefits of this have yet to be explained to fans?
-What long term assurances can you, the Club provide us, the fans with regarding the long-term security of Yeovil Town Football Club?
No public statement has been made by Mr Fry and Mr Starnes as to what will happen in the future should Mr Fry and Mr Hayward choose to sell their control of the holding company. What safeguards are in place to protect the Football Club from any impact this sale may have?
-You [Mr Fry] have often been quoted as wishing to have an open and transparent relationship with the fans regarding the running of the Club and we believe that this is the time that the off-field issues highlighted above require addressing.
The fans have received quotes from the Club contributed to one article in the local press and to our knowledge, there has been no further statement released or published on the official Club website. We believe this, and the lack of reply to our last email is a failure on the Club’s behalf to keep to the agreed Customer Charter it has established.
We hope that those at the Club will consider the above points and we would encourage further public statements on the Club’s position. The concerns of our members and those of all fans are likely to grow the longer that the Club retain their silence. We are aware that various conspiracy theories are already being expressed amongst an increasing number of fans, something perhaps only given weight by the increased press speculation regarding the re-structuring issue given by such respected national publications as the Guardian and When Saturday Comes.
Our wish for an open meeting for all fans with Mr Fry and Mr Starnes to discuss fears surrounding the Club’s plans remains and we hope to hear more from you soon.
Regards,
The Capital Glovers – For Yeovil Town Supporters in London & The South East."
Travel for Exeter City (Home)
Date added: 23/08/2010
We have decided that we will be organising group travel to the Exeter City home league game on Saturday 25th September, essentially to pay our respects and join the tributes to the late, great Adam Stansfield.
In all likelihood we will be travelling on our usual train down to Yeovil Junction, the 09.27am from Clapham Junction and returning at 18.29 on Saturday evening. Watch this space for confirmation of these details. If you fancy joining us drop us a line.
And remember, watch this page for updates on further games we make plans to attend. Also, if you are planning a day trip to a game not on our current list of fixtures let us know – it may prove feasible to arrange a car-share or discounted rail travel.
CGs in the Media!
Date added: 21/08/2010
Coverage of our open letter to the Club has been widespread since its publication on this website and on via our mailing list on August 2nd. This only goes to show the growing concern over Yeovil Town’s lack of public communication regarding the current restructuring plans.
We thought it would be worth highlighting articles that not only mention our letter, but also provide what we feel good places to start should you wish to delve further into the issues affecting the Club we all support. Take this as a reading list Glovers!
Firstly of course, our ever reliable friends at Ciderspace and their featured bloggers have as ever, given the issues we highlighted with our letter heavy priority. Start with this summary piece and then make your way to the blog section for thoughts from both Taff and guest contributor Cruncher.
In the wider football world, our letter was directly quoted in the national press as part of Guardian journalist Matt Scott’s ongoing pursuit of answers from the Yeovil Town board. This articles makes up just one of four mentions the Club have had in Matt’s Digger column.
Finally, and although we are not mentioned, the respected football blog TwoHundredPerCent have published their own take on the situation.
If you find any other articles surrounding the ongoing issues at the Club, please let us know. And for the record, we have heard no further word from the Club following our latest email to them.
Adam Stansfield R.I.P.
Date added: 21/08/2010
As the sad passing of beloved former player Adam Stansfield will be marked today at Huish Park with a minute’s applause, we thought we would highlight just two of the many glowing tributes to both the player and the man that have been written over the last week. He was one of our own, and will be much missed by Glovers up and down the country.
Capital Glover, Seb White has contributed this to online magazine, The Sabotage Times. And the Ciderspace tribute will bring fond memories and tears of pride to many a fan’s eyes.
Adam Stansfield will never be forgotten. We’ve all 'come fucking miles' to get to where we are today.
Update re. Open Letter to Club.
Date added: 19/08/2010
Message from Bill Biss, Capital Glover.
Just an update on the recent response we have now received from the Club to our open letter, dated August 2nd regarding the restructuring of assets.
I personally re-sent the Club the open letter via Sara Bradley, Supporter Liaison Officer from my own email account on the morning of August 18th in the hope that we would receive some acknowledgement. We then promptly received a response from Sara, firstly acknowledging our email and secondly, to invite me to a meeting with Mr Fry and Mr Starnes.
As you will be aware, the Capital Glovers as a collective chose to send our letter after consultation with yourselves and the Facebook group. We like to think we are an open group who represent the wishes of as many London and South East based Glovers as we attract. With this in mind I sent the following personal reply to the Club which I hope you will find in keeping with our previous stance on this.
Please feel free to share your thoughts on the matter, we welcome your views.
"Hi Sara,
Many thanks for your reply. Would it be possible to get your IT guys to 'whitelist' the info@capitalglovers.com email address? As our system confirmed the email had been delivered I assume it must have been blocked by your spam filter. Not to worry. I understand that Mr Starnes, if not Mr Fry, has seen the letter regardless of the email.
Getting back to the matter at hand, I fully appreciate the offer to meet with Mr Fry and Mr Starnes. However, we originally sent the letter to Mr Fry as an open letter, emailed to the club and published on our website, with online publicity through Facebook, emails and tweets that the club's webmaster no doubt picked up and passed on. This was a conscious decision as the letter was a collective result of consultation with Capital Glovers and not the works of an individual or two. Consequently we would like any reply to be directed in the same open manner that lets our members receive any information or assurances first hand rather than from the sort of 'Chinese whispers' or misinterpretations that might arise from a private meeting. Much like Yeovil Town Football Club, the Capital Glovers are an open and transparent organisation.
Please can you direct any replies or further responses to my email to the address listed below. I welcome the chance of a personal dialogue with those at the Club but wish for this to remain open to the wider Yeovil-supporting community.
Kind regards,
Bill Biss on behalf of the Capital Glovers
YTFC player sponsorship 2010-11
Date added: 03/08/2010
For the fourth year running the Capital Glovers will be sponsoring the away kit of a YTFC player.
This year's selection for the curse is Paul Huntington, who is following in the footsteps of Lloyd Owusu (one season) and Kieran Murtagh (two seasons).
The format is the same as the last three years. Those who contribute to the sponsorship are put in a hat at the end of the season, with the winner receiving the signed player's shirt along with certificate of authentication.
The Capital Glovers also benefit from a mention in each matchday programme's sponsors page throughout the season, plus an article in the issue which features the sponsored player.
For the last two years the share for each sponsor has worked out at £15 per person, so that's the plan once more for this year (though we don't want anyone to be priced out of it).
If you're happy to join in the sponsorship fun please email info@capitalglovers.com, with your option below.
Depending on numbers there may be an excess so the options are:
A) I'd like to sponsor £15 with any excess being returned to me / deducted from the amount I pay
B) I'd like to sponsor £15 with the excess being put to good use by the Capital Glovers
C) I can't manage £15 at the moment but would still like to be involved - I can contribute £X
By good use we mean along the lines of:
- subsidising Capital Glovers merchandise (look out for the new polo shirts making their debut on Saturday)
- subsidising match fees (last year the extra few pounds went towards our supporters match against the Leeds United London supporters team, ensuring that the cost for our players was capped at £5 per head)
- contributing towards any cost of meeting room or venue hire for Capital Glovers meet ups.
An Open Letter to the Club
Date added: 02/08/2010
Following growing fears amongst the Yeovil Town fanbase and consultation with our mailing list we have decided to send the following open letter to John Fry:
"Mr Fry.
We write to you openly in your position as chairman of the companies, Yeovil Town Holdings Ltd and Yeovil Football and Athletic Club Ltd.
Following your recent announcements regarding these two companies and the effective splitting of Yeovil Town Football Club’s property assets from the Club’s football operation we believe greatly that a number of concerns regarding the future of our wonderful club require addressing.
As we are sure you are aware these concerns were alluded to in a recent article published by national newspaper, the Guardian and are currently the topic of virtually every conversation shared by Yeovil fans. With so many examples of other football clubs having gone down this route and faced significant financial turmoil, administration, the deduction of points by the Football League and the loss of their grounds, we respectfully request confirmation from you regarding the following:
Please can you explain the benefits of pursuing the sale of Yeovil Town’s property assets, potentially including Huish Park and the splitting of these assets from those of the footballing operation?
What long term assurances can you, the Club provide us, the fans with regarding the long-term security of Yeovil Town Football Club? How will you ensure that we will not face the same widely documented problems faced for example by Crystal Palace, Southend United, Stockport County, Rotherham United and Weymouth?
You have often been quoted as wishing to have an open and transparent relationship with the fans regarding the running of the Club and we believe that this is the time that the off-field issues highlighted above require addressing.
We remain 100% loyal to the Yeovil Town team, managed by Terry Skiverton and Nathan Jones and will be giving them our full support over the coming season, and for all those that follow.
Regards,
Capital Glovers – Yeovil Town FC supporters in London and the South East"

Opening Day Party Train!
Date added: 29/07/2010
We’ve probably left it too late to get the very best deals on train travel but we will be organising what group discounts we can for our usual jaunt back home to Yeovil for the first day of the season!
With Leyton Orient - Slade, Forbes, Brown and all being the opponents it should be a good game and we’ll probably have some company on the trains to and from London!
Usual practice for home games is to get to Clapham Junction under your own steam and we then meet, and organise group rail tickets from there.
We aim to leave on the 9.27am train out of Clapham to ensure we make it to Yeovil Junction ahead of the pubs opening and we leave on the 6.29pm party train back to London. For reference, we always make a beeline for the front carriage of the trains we take.
If you fancy joining us and taking advantage of what group savings we can make, please drop us a line at info@capitalglovers.com. Based on multiples of 4 adults travelling together the basic cost of the train tickets is looking like being £19.85 each but we’re working on that...
Travel Plans for the 2010/2011 Season
Date added: 24/07/2010
We have been studying the fixture list for the coming season religiously since it was released back in June and have come to the general conclusion that they’re actually pretty rubbish for us Yeovil Town fans!
As such, we have compiled a list of games that the Capital Glovers will be targeting for our travels this season. We will be arranging what group travel plans we can to ensure that we get the very most out of what promise to be some legendary away days! If you fancy joining us, look out for emails on the mailing list or via this news page.
Please see the list of games we’ll be attending on masse below, including as you’d expect, the London fixtures where we’ll be plotting our usual local all-welcome pub crawls and selected other games spread out across the season. We plan to arrange at least one away weekender again so look out for details on that coming soon.
Sat 7th Aug – Leyton Orient at Home.
Sat 4th Sep – Notts County Away.
Sat 20th Nov – Charlton Athletic Away.
Tue 28th Dec – Sheffield Wednesday Away.
Sat 1st Jan – Plymouth Argyle Away.
Sat 29th Jan – Brentford Away.
Sat 12th Feb – Dagenham & Redbridge Away.

Fantasy Football
Date added: 24/07/2010
We will again be running a fantasy football league for the coming season so if you fancy joining, or rejoining follow this link.
Once you’ve registered your details and picked your team you can join the Capital Glovers mini-league, all you’ll need is the code to join: 420926-104852
Its only a bit of fun but who knows, if it’s getting competitive, maybe we’ll arrange a prize for the winning manager come the end of the season!
Brighton Away - Formal Wear Required!
Date added: 08/04/2010
The fixture computer has been kind to us this season and given us an away day on the last day of the season (Saturday May 8th) close to London and smack bang in the South East. Having said that, a trip to the Withdean Stadium does have its drawbacks...
We thought we would try and spark a new tradition to try and make it a little more fun, and hopefully relax everyone a bit if it proves to be an important game in the battle for League One safety.
Other team’s fans traditionally have a fancy dress theme for their last away trip of the season so we thought we’d put a twist on it – instead of fancy dress, we thought we’d literally dress up!
So, that means formal wear for all! Suits and your Sunday best please! If you like the idea, there’s a facebook event set up for it and you can always email us on the address above.
Umbrellas and binoculars optional.

Brentford Away
Date added: 07/04/2010
Our last game in the Capital this season could prove a very important one, Brentford away on Saturday April 24th.
And as we’ve always enjoyed the visit to Brentford we thought we’d go and make the most of what this little corner of West London has to offer. Come and join us if you’re up for the day and are going to game.
We will be starting the day at O’Briens on Brentford High Street at around 11.30. We’ll then aim to work our way up to the ground via The Magpie and Crown and The Brewery Tap.
What with there being a pub on each corner of Griffin Park we’ll be spoilt for choice but our usual haunt is The Griffin on the corner nearest the away end. We’ll be there from 13.30.
Suitably refreshed we’ll then make it inside the ‘Wendy House’ as the away end is affectionately known in time to watch what will hopefully be the game that sees us secure League One status, or thinking positively, what will be a meaningless mid-table scrap!
Post match there are various plans for further fun along the Thames in Chiswick or Putney depending on the weather. All areas are easily in reach of underground stations or mainline stations which will get you back to Waterloo in no time.

Yeovil & Southend Survival Party!
Date added: 15/03/2010
We are hoping to arrange an end of season friendly game and all round survival party (literally in their case), with the boys behind the excellent Southend United fanzine, All At Sea.
Under the guise of much missed Yeovil fanzine On To Victory we’ve been meeting up with and pitting our 5-a-side wits against our counterparts at Southend for a number of seasons. Last time out, ahead of Southend’s memorable FA Cup tie at Chelsea in the 2008/9 season they beat us convincingly so we’ll be looking for revenge!
Edited to update - We can now confirm this friendly and trip to the seaside will take place on Saturday 29th May. If you're interested in playing, just let us know!

Easter Social!
Date added: 12/03/2010
The Capital Glovers 11-a-side bunch of misfits and toerags will be playing a friendly football match against a side based in Battersea Park on Thursday, April 1st.
As the game will only last an hour (7pm-8pm) we thought we might fit in a bit of a social jolly afterwards. Especially as it’s the night before the Easter Weekend starts.
The side and others will be retiring to local hostilery, The Duke of Cambridge for a chat and general get together post-match.
If you would like to play, or just fancy a night out watching comedy football and having a laugh let us know.

We’ve had a good couple of outings recently, what with the Charlton away game on our doorsteps and the annual away weekender to Norwich just gone by.
Okay, so not the best results we could have hoped for from the games but we had fun at least. See the evidence for yourself on the Capital Glover’s facebook group where an increasing amount of photos and the like can be found!
Why not join and add your odd Glover related photos whilst you're at it!
Charlton Athletic Away
Date added: 10/02/2010
So, it’s one of the big ones! On Saturday February 20th we meet Charlton Athletic at the Valley in a League 1 match! I’m sure we can all look back fondly on our memorable Cup games there, but now we’re meeting them as equals...well, ignoring the points total, respective fan base, stadium facilities, bank balance etc etc.
Whisper it, but I think they even have enough burgers and hotdogs to go round at half-time. Imagine! Anyway, you’d hope so at £25 a ticket.
If that hasn’t put you off, then the Capital Glovers are organising a sedate day, taking in a few pubs in the Greenwich area before making our way to the ground. All are welcome of course, we welcome old faces and new so if you’ve only just moved up to the area, are only here for the day or have been lurking in London for a while come and join us!
We will be in the Cutty Sark Tavern from 11.30 to 12.30. Nearest overground is Maze Hill, or alternatively the nearest DLR stations are, Cutty Sark and Greenwich.
After that we’ll be moving on to The Pelton Arms. This looks like a good stop off for food and you may recognise it as the pub used as the Nag’s Head in the recent BBC Only Fools & Horse’s prequel!
From around 1.15 we’ll be in The Plume of Feathers, which is back right up by Maze Hill overground station. From here we’ll be making our way one stop along the line to Charlton and the short walk to the ground.
Hope to see you along the way!
Leyton Orient Away - Rearranged Plans
Date added: 13/01/2010
As I'm sure you know, Yeovil’s rearranged away game at Leyton Orient has been scheduled for next Tuesday - the 19th.
Pending any further postponement, here are the Capital Glovers plans for the evening...
Our 5-a-side team have a match kicking off at 6pm here.
So if you fancy coming down to lend your support please do so! Why not stop off for an alfresco pint! We're always looking for new players so this is an ideal chance to see what we're about. It's only a short deviation en route to Leyton across town with the pitch being located about 100 metres from Warren St Tube.
After that we're be joining any non-playing CGs in the Birkbeck Tavern, near Leyton Tube for a quick drink before kick-off. Link to the pub is here.
Hope to see you along the way!
Norwich Away Weekender!
Date added: 13/01/2010
At our pre-season meeting we decided that Norwich would be the venue for this season’s annual Capital Glover weekender.
Yeovil Town’s away fixture against Norwich City takes place on Saturday 6th March so we’re looking to organise our group match tickets, travel and accommodation.
Our general plan is to head up on Friday 5th March, take in the sights and the game on Saturday (...plus a bit of the nightlife!) and travel back to London on Sunday 7th March.
Initial planning has shown us that we can do the lot for between £80-90 plus spends but depending on numbers we could reduce this further.
If you’re interested in joining us in having a fun old time following the boys in green n’ white please get in touch via the email address listed on this site.

New season, new features
Date added: 13/07/2009
Welcome to the first update of the Capital Glovers website for the 2009/10 season.
We'll shortly be launching a new section of the website aimed at travel to games, both home and away, with planned travel arrangement (rail, bus, plane, car, tube), guides to what it's like and pub reviews from our own real ale guru, Steve Wh-ale.
Keep a look out for our next Capital Glovers meeting, coming soon to a central London pub. At this meeting we'll talk the new season, life in London and the South East, travel for the new season, and a Capital Glovers weekend away. There will also be the prize draw for Keiran Murtagh's signed away kit from last season, though entry is confined to those who helped sponsor his kit. Join in the sponsorship for this season to stand a chance of winning a shirt next year!
If you've not been involved with the Capital Glovers before, now's your chance. If you have, let's have your input to make us a better supporters group for Yeovil Town fans.
